Water Softners
Water Softners Remove Calcium & Magnesium from Water
Water softening process
Hard water enters the softener vessel and passes through the softening resin. The hard water minerals are attracted by the resin and are removed from the water.
Regeneration process
When the resin becomes saturated with hard water minerals, the water softener sysem needs to be regenerated. Our automated softener systems can be programed to regenerate based on capacity and time. This regeneration is the process that frees the resin of hard water minerals, making it ready to soften the water again. Brine (salt water solution) is drawn into the vessel and by "Ion Exchange" removes the Calcium and Magnesium from the resin. The Calcium and Magnesium is flushed down the drain. Once the resin is regenerated, the remaining brine water is flushed out of the system, leaving it ready for use.
To size a water softener the following information is needed:
- Total Hardness of the water (any pool shop can test the water for this)
- Volume of water used p/day (average of 150 lt. p/person p/day)
- Connection size and/or flowrate
